Local tuner in C Springs!

Postby speedjunkie » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:14

Alright guys, we found a good local tuner in CS. Well, Frank actually found him. The guy saw Frank driving his FD and started talking to him and gave him his card. Frank gave me the info and Chris, Zico, Simon and I went to see him and his shop. He has a Superflow dyno, he used to be a Superflow rep. Anyway, he works with ALMS race cars and also some for SCCA. I thought he only tuned them but I believe his builds them too. Anyway, I'm scheduled to take my car to him at 11am tomorrow (today rather, 29 Sept). I'll let you guys know what happens.

Oh, and I believe he's talking to Chris about becoming a sponsor.

His name is Steve Estrada and he has WRRoadRace, it's just outside the north gate of Peterson AFB, by Caveman Wheels.

I am going to be meeting with him sometime in the near future. I'm just waiting to see how Eric's tune goes first.

It is a 2wd dyno though so no speed6's.

Before you get your car done, I'd like to see what he can do for us.

No luck tuning today. First we had problems getting the laptop to sync up with the Power FC. Then we were trying to figure out why changing the fuel map wouldn't show any change in the AFRs at idle...then remembered that I have 1000cc primary injectors and the biggest you can go with a normal AFR at idle is 850cc. So we're going to re-attack tomorrow and tune the rest of the range, and within the next couple months or so I'm going to get the ID injectors and single turbo harness and get a re-tune.

So, does he have experience tuning rotary cars? I'm assuming so since you're taking your car there, but personally I wouldn't take my car to anyone who hasn't already tuned FDs in the past...

He has never tuned an FD before but he has done a ton of Spec 7 cars.

And I'd stay away from Caveman Wheelz...the rice I see coming out of there scares me sometimes.

Correct. And Dillon, I'm known as the guinea pig 'round these here parts. LOL

The only thing I have to do with them is passing by their shop to get to Steve HAHA.

Going back tonight at 830 to tune some more. We did a lot today but when I took it out for a drive it still hit high AFRs under boost in 3rd and 4th, that's a no-go.
