It is alive!

Postby Justin » Sun Jan 16, 2011 9:14

Ok, so I know most of you won't actually care, but I'm stoked and sharing it anyway. The previous owner of my 1971 Bronco had some, um, creative wiring changes that meant the truck didn't have wipers, a heater, turn signals, brake lights, etc. So I rewired it! As in, replaced every single wire in the truck minus the 6" leads that connect to the signal and side marker lights. About 12:45am my Bronco woke up (and probably woke my neighbors across the street, but I'm OK with that-they're kind of annoying). Thanks to some advice from the folks in my other car club (http://www.coloradoclassicbroncos.com) I was able to get the final parts of my rewire finished this evening. The best part? Almost everything works, and worked the first time. The only thing I've found that is non-functional is the gas gauge, and that may be as easy and changing around the wiring to the gauge itself. I also need to replace some burnt out marker bulbs, but was able to verify that the wiring was good with a test light. The only thing I haven't been able to verify is the charging system. If my truck dies in 10 or 15 miles, I guess I'll know where to start! Mostly I'm really stoked because I've never attempted something like this before and it worked! The stench of half-burned hydrocarbons (40 year old V-8 with no emissions equipment on it at all) has never smelled so good!

Glad you got it going. Nothing as rewarding as getting something going yourself.

That awesome Justin!!! I remember doing that on my bronco when I had it, was quite...interesting.

Once you get it reliably running I want a ride in it for old times sake, if you don't mind. And I'll bring tissues so I don't get tears and snot all over it when I start crying in remembrance haha.

I'd be stoked to take you for a ride. They're neat rigs and the interior is coated in bedliner, so I won't be too broken up if you weep on it. :-)
