2004-2009 RX-8 Clutch Pedal Recall

Postby GR-8 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:14

Yet again Mazda recalls the clutch pedal brackets for the recalls. It is extended to 8yrs or 100k miles. This is for all RX-8s manufactured fom April, 10 2003 - September 13, 2008.

Symptom - "....clutch pedal bracket may have a crack, causing an abnormal noise. If the clutch pedal continues to be operated with this condition, the clutch pedal bracket may break, changing the disengagement point of the clutch and possibly preventing shifting of gears."

If you paid for a new clutch pedal you are elegible for reimbursement. There is an application to send in and get rireimbursement. If you are not the first.original owner you may not be getting a letter so I'd call a dealer or MNAO and see what they say.

Now I just have to find a dealer that will do the work on my Turbo'd 8 and find a way to get the other 8 there. Still looking for control arms for it. :(

I didn't know there was an initial recall. I had the Mazsport reinforcement bracket on mine.

Yeah I beleive there was one but I think it was more of a TSB type of thing. No letter about it that time. It was out around the time mine broke the first time.

I wanted that bracket. Oh well. After I get this one replaced I'm gonna make my own brackets for it.

Edit - I stopped by the dealer and the Service Manager told me that since it's a SSP (Special Service Program/Recall) that it does not matter what has been done to the car (Modding, Accident, Salvage Title......) and that they have to replace it.

My letter said that I could only get it replaced it was causing issues. So far as I can tell, my clutch pedal hasn't .. broken off.. ? It didn't look like a recall to me..

Just say you hear it creaking/squeaking/etc. That should be enough. The next noise you'd hear after that would be SNAP!

Yes. A pop is bad. Take it in before you're towing it in.

Yes take it in. Mine has been making a creaking noise so I am taking it in as soon as I can. I've already had to have mine towed once before. I missed a club dyno day because of it.

So about 5 months after getting this letter I took the T8 in to get it checked. Yep my clutch pedal bracket is cracked. This is the second one for me. MOL is ordering the parts. I've had it up to here (are you looking?) with every dealer so I really don't care where I take it at this point. MOL is right down the street from our new restaurant so I just took it there.

Parts should be in in a few days. I'm wondering if I should call MNAO and compain to them and try to get my transmission fixed. Not sure what I can get by trying to argue that the reason my transmission is going out because of the bracket. Is it even possible that that could be a cause of it? I'm knida irked that they did not fix my transmission a second time after they intially fixed it and I still had all the same symptoms and problems a week later that I did before they fixed it. They even voided my warranty. This is the second time the bracket has broken with the first leaving me stranded in a parking lot before a cruise. Not sure if I should call in and argue it or not.

Should I call?

It doesn't hurt to try. . . Sort of :p If it's your only viable option to get it fixed anytime soon, I would do it before more problems arise. Is there any part of your warranty left that they can still void :p

I have 1 more year on the motor but not like it matters. That warranty also got thrown out the door when they voided my warranty. Only reason they voided it was because of the picture MOL has on their comp. in the parts deprtment.

Well hey, if you've got nothing to lose in terms of them voiding more of the warranty, it's worth a shot! Nothing ventured nothing gained!

since I have been here no one mentions the mazda dealership in aurora (havana and 1st) is there something wrong with them cause I usually take my 7 to them and one guy said they had a guy who knew about rotaries. I was just saying incase MOL gives you a hard time you can try aurora. They were happy to replace my mouse seatbelts (recal).
