Anyone seen this concept for a 2012 release? Just saw it and it looks really nice. Not sure on the specs (I havn't searched for any) But it does look nice. About time Toyota is getting back into making sports cars.

Looks like a car that should have a rotary in it.

+1

I thought it was going to be marketed as both a Toyota and a Subaru?!? Either way, from the rumors, it was supposed to be front-engine RWD, with a boxer-4 making close to ~200hp in naturally aspirated trim. That was a while ago though, it will be interesting to see what they do with it.

The rumors also stated that the Subaru version would possibly have available AWD, but in a car this light with an NA motor, I would rather have the RWD version.... we'll see what happens.

I just read an article about this car:
http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2011/04/first-look-scion-frs-86-concept/

Very interesting:
"That includes the DS-4 injection system – a dual direct and port injector design – that helps boost both torque and horsepower, while also achieving better fuel economy."

^^^Someone really thought this through, this is the first port/direct injection hybrid concept I've read about from an OEM... very crafty. :D

In theory, this would make it easier for the aftermarket who is used to tuning PI cars, as fuel pumps/injectors are more readily available... it will be interesting to see how the aftermarket reacts.

My guess is if that car makes production, it will look very little like that concept. Probably not as much toned down since it's marketed as a Scion and not a Toyota, but still, Toyota these days is definitely NOT a daring carmaker. They build the Camry and Corolla. They make plain Jane cars for anybody. They do get a little more outrageous with the Scion designs, but I still thing that concept will be seriously toned down, which is a shame.

Yeah, Toyota isn't known for taking risks very often anymore.... but it's nice to see them making something at least remotely sporty that your average buyer can afford (Lexus IS-F & LFA are too rich for my blood!)

Since Toyota cancelled the Supra, the MR2 and the Celica, this is the first remotely interesting thing they've built (well, I'm sure Subaru helped, but whatever). Back in the day I always wished they would have brought the Toyota Celica All Trac GT4 over here, even though they did bring an early version of the All Trac over, they're tough to find.

Either way, good for them for finally putting forth a bit of interest in the enthusiast market, as they've been gone from it for a LONG time.

Although, the styling may stay similar in production IMO, as the last gen Celica had pretty "aggressive" styling with the STI/EVO style ricer wing and whatnot.

lol...I remember all of those ads. There was a billboard one where a cop was writing a ticket to a parked empty Celica. That's when I wanted that car.
