For those going on track, here are a few things to maybe help you out.

First, attached is a track map with the school line on it. The school line is the line you will want to take around the track. As track days are not races, it's the fastest way around track.

Below is an on-board video from HPR that shows the school line pretty darn well. Granted we are not in a bad *** Radical as the video, his turn in and braking points on a few corners are a bit different since he can be that awesome, lol.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTtzwG64Y8A&feature=channel"]YouTube - A race lap at High Plains Raceway[/ame]

Another link to a big sweet track map:

http://www.highplainsraceway.com/images/track-map-large3.gif

I'm trying to get a really good video from vimeo, but it's being fussy. Might have it later.

And lastly, a little turn by turn i made for another member a year ago. This particular member also had an MS3 with similar mods, so that's what this turn by turn reflects. If you have an MS3 this will be pretty accurate, for those tracking other cars you might have to adapt from this a bit.

General Stuff:
1. Check tire pressures before you go on track each time
2. Make sure your lugs are torqued before the day
3. NEVER use your e-brake after coming off the track, park in gear to prevent the brake pads from gluing themselves to the hot rotors
4. For braking zones, chose something to initiate your braking (a cone, a brake warning number, something)

A good way to attack a turn is this:
1. Chose your braking point
2. Know your turn in point
3. Know where the apex is
4. Always look ahead!
Doing these 4 things for each turn helps a lot!

Track Time!

Turn 1: Light braking and a downshift to 3rd; simple left hand sweep

Turn 2: A sort of late Apex right hand turn; wait a bit before you pinch your turn

Turn 3: A dab of braking and a nice right hand turn onto the back straight

Turn 4: Brake and downshift to 4th if you were in 5th by the end of the straight; a right hander, track out to middle-ish and then return to track right for turn 5

Turn 5: Light braking and wait to turn in, its a nice left hander

Turn 6: Brutal late apex decreasing radius right hander; this is a wait to pinch your turn and the apex is the end of the cement rumble strip on the inside. If you turn in early on this one you will understeer and if you turn in early and to hot you will probably go off track

Turn 7: Exit 6 tracking out to track left and turn into 7 from track left; the apex on 7 is again the end of the cement rumble strip; 4th gear through 7

Turn 8: Pending speed from 7 this can be a hard braking zone, downshift to 3; Stay track right and turn in at the last cone (if they put the cones out)

Turn 9A: Begins the 1st set of sweepers; 9A is a right hand sweep to 9B

Turn 9B: Left sweeper; stay track left for turn 10 (9A & 9B i did in 3rd, a shift to 4th could be something you could do, but not sure it’s necessary)

Turn 10: Nice smooth right hander, nothing special

Turn 11: From track left turn in, but wait to pinch your turn; 11 is another late apex turn

Turn 12: Track out of 11 to track left and stay track left for 12 which is a small kink

Turn 13: Tack out of 12 to track right; hard braking zone for the left hander beginning the last set of sweepers

Turn 14: Sweeper track right

Turn 15: Sweeper track left; track out to track right. And you’re done, this takes you to the front straight

Hope this helps!

*Disclaimer: Though we have the same car, this is all my experience, please don't take my "light braking" suggestions as "oh i must just have to dust the brakes." Judge it yourself for the first few laps and gain speed from there.

Can't wait to see you all out there!

Sweet news! I messaged the guy with the vimeo video and he happily took the password off it! Real nice guy. So here is arguably the best video i have found of both HPR and the line. Not to mention it's in an awesome, sexy, pure, sweet, and many other adjectives Porsche!

Half day is $90. Full day is $150. 8am-noon is the first half, 1pm-5pm is the second half. Convertibles have to have a roll-bar installed directly behind the driver's seat, which you have. So that and a helmet and you should be good.

I would love to come but money is a little tight right now and I really want to go to Bandimere if it ever freaking stops raining. Also I can't take any Fridays off for the next several weeks.

I'll be there. Just bled the brakes and checked all the fluids yesterday. My friend Ian (that I know through RC Sailplanes) has a 450 HP Turbo VW R32 and he may join as well. He's an old hand at track days and is a fountain of knowledge.

I also picked up a brand new Pyrotect helmet off Craigslist, so I'm pretty much ready. Just have to change out the stockers for the RE01R/RX8 Combo and maybe wash her up before Friday.

What are plans as far as time to get there and 1/2 day or full day, etc?

Looking forward to it,

Graham

Graham i'm just doing an AM half day. Going to save a little money and i know i'll be back at HPR again so i'm going to spread out the wear on the car.

For those who have no track experience at HPR, you MUST attend the 7:45 information meeting. I'm going to get there at 7 so i'm set for whenever the first session is.

Make sure you have read HRP's short Open Track Day Policies so you don't run into any problems. Can't wait to get to HPR!

I think I'm opting for the 1/2 day afternoon session and I'm probably going to get there mid-morning 10am or so. There's a second driver information meeting at 12:45 that I will plan to attend.

Andrew, any chance you can do the afternoon instead? It would be fun to have both our cars out at the same time...but not so much fun that I feel like waking up at 6am to make it happen. I'm not a morning person.

I'm still debating between the AM and PM session. I think the AM session will see less people which is nice. But, it would be nice not to have to be at the track so early for once. The weather looks awesome for Friday, so the afternoon might not be bad.

Graham i will let you know by the end of the day.

I am leaving for the track at 6AM, should be there (according to the GPS) by 7:00. Will likely do the AM session and might hang around for the afternoon session depending on what else I have going on.
