My Janette slow build progress

Postby alex_n/a » Sun May 29, 2011 9:14

Maybe doing a thread will get me motivated to keep working on the car.

A little history of the car, it is a 1989 rx7 non turbo. some of the options that came with the car was electric windows, sun roof, automatic locks, alarm, and those special rear speaker covers that are meant to hold the rear cargo cover.

The previous owner added some nice things. Recaro Classic C seats, they were heated and very adjustable the most comfortable seats my butt has ever sat on. Also installed were Tein lowering springs/kyg gas adjust shocks. HKS drop in air filter, short shifter, plenty of rims  brighter headlights, and the other riced stuff I removed.

When I bought the car it was not running and the owner new nothing cause he bought it from another person who also didn't know what was wrong because he also bought it not running..... the first day I got it back I was able to get it running, sadly on 1 rotor. so my project was officially started.

(copy and pasted from 7club)

this is what she looked like at first. mixed rims, but I had all 3 matching sets. sadly the 2 piece rims were damaged beyond safe use.

the engine bay was filthy

I removed the engine

and some pictures of those awesome seats, to bad they were to big for an fc :( also my dumb*** sold the seats with after market rails meant for the fc to be used with aftermarket seats. the guy didn't even want them but I was having trouble removing the brackets so I left them. Sparco sells the brackets and rails for 150$ a piece :(

i haven't really done anything post worthy but what i have done is
fixed my passenger side seat belt rail and went to mazda to order a new driver side seat belt rail

fixed my heater (clogged heater core)

bought missing interior (thanks to scrapfc)

got some wheels (thanks to clokker)

fixed my speedometer cable, if yours ever breaks trust me just buy a new one, i spend 3 hours trying to repair mine. in the end i just bought a new and took me 10 minutes to replace. and you don't have to remove the cluster just reach under the dash its easier if you have small hands

fixed my sunroof now it opens up on its own with no assistance from me

switched door handles since mine was broken

unclogged the drain hoses in the hatch

burped my coolant system

removed p/s and a/c installed manual rack (love manual rack)

fixed fog lights

cleaned the car (engine bay, interior)

modernized taillights

new motor mounts
refinish ftp lenses
godspeed radiator
efan
move intake filter to front of radiator
front/rear strut bars
odura lip
new tires (for the "new" wheels)
repair/replace broken interior trim, i really want to fiberglass everything and paint it but i'm worried it might look like crap.

install manual seat belts
quick release hub for steering wheel
remote start alarm system
racing beat full exhaust (or i'll hand make my own exhaust piping with rb mufflers)

installing kill switch

EDIT: the wire coming out the ash tray is not the wires for the kill switch, it is for the headphone jack for the stereo. i will drill a hole in the tray under the stereo to bring it out through there and not grab the attention to the ashtray.

I've done some electrical stuff. re did my stereo harness. It's neatly soldered and heat shrunk
before
Image

after (not soldered yet, don't have a pic of that)
Image

I also got around to installing my oil pressure gauge. I modded the dash tray to hold 1 gauge but will fit 2 more once i cut the holes out.
Image

nearly perfect fit and I didn't even need a special case. I'm sure i'm not the first to realize the tray frame can hold gauges. they are not going anywhere.

I also got newer better seats. they look like vert seats but with different headrest, they are actually from my original fc sold about 4 years ago.
