15% grade, 14k feet. This should be interesting for myself and Mtn High RX-7...... SO MUCH POWER LOSS!
Jon: I may have a passenger friend come with me
He doesn't own a Mazda at all.... but interested in going if he can.
Same friend stated this about the entrance way to go to Mt Evans:
"the east side from Evergreen to Echo lake is pretty bumpy and lots of pot holes, but the other half from Echo lake to Idaho springs is Awesome! It was one of my favorites on the crotch rocket"
He also said the grade (15%) isn't as bad as it seems... so I hope not , haha.

Mass PM sent out to everyone that has said they want to come.
Also, I'm tempted to go to Costco tomorrow and see if they sell the set of 2 way radios they list online in stores. It's $60 for a set of 2 walkie talkies. Very tempting to go buy for the cruise. And not to mention, I will get paid on Thursday (first real paycheck, woo!) so it' won't be the end of the world to spend some money

Are we going ALL the way to the top? If so, it costs to get up there, to go onto HWY-5.

That was the plan, but if you guys don't want to, we don't have to. I just did a bit of looking on Google, and it appears as though it is $10 for a car to get all the way up. I personally have every intention of going all the way up, but again if everyone doesn't want to, then they don't have to.

I'm happy so long my car will be ok. I think the more worry is mine and mtn high rx-7 cause of our low -end torque. but i was reading and looking at the roads, and it doesn't really seem bad, just a ton of hairpins. At the top, there's a huge drop off, and no guardrails.... I don't plan on speeding at any costs.

Haha. Nor do I.
Also, from what I was reading on the mount evans website, the grade isn't actually 15%, it's more like 2-5%, it's just the really thin air that would make it seem more like 15%.
DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERAS! There will be some awesome views when we get to the top!
ALSO! So here's the deal with going to the top:
I plan on running over and going to Costco first thing tomorrow morning. They open at 10. I'm going to see if they have one of the sets of the Unided 2 way radios in stock. There are 3 in the set, and it also comes with a DC charger, so hopefully if they aren't fully charged out of the box I will be able to charge them somewhat before the cruise. IF they do not have one in stock, I have enough cash to pay for 8 people to go up if it is indeed $10/car, and I don't know if Karl (MSP SuperStreet) is still going to meet up with us. I haven't heard back from him, so at this point I am not going to be expecting him. So if they end up not having the walkie talkies in stock, well then free toll!

I'm sorry not to make this one. I was looking foward to it.
Cristi keep in mind that they race rotarys up pikes peak.
Have a good time I would suggest the first inline be mindful of everyone once you turn onto 103 off the exit in Idaho Springs. maybe even pull to the right if theres room and let others cars pass by. Then when the last car catches up they can flash there lights to signal everyone to resume cruize. You may have to do the same thing in Evergreen after the Lake there is an intersection light (kind of a touristy area) But I dont think it will be a big problem on this route.
Have Fun Everyone!...............Dan

You guys are LAME!!!!
A whopping 4 of us showed up, Alain (geo2maz, who never said he was coming in the thread), Paul (Number2), Christi and I went up. Of course, Christi being a rotary owner couldn't make it all the way up Mount Evans. Her 7 is eating coolant apparently, and was getting close to overheating before we even made it to the road up Mount Evans. Paul was going up Mount Evans with us but headed back down before we got all the way up because it started hailing on us making the road summer tire unfriendly (that's the hint that he is running summer tires). So Alain (and Christi riding in his car) and I made it all the way up. There are some seriously beautiful views that you all missed out on.
