speedjunkie wrote:I had downloaded Flip4Mac last week and it worked for the WMV movies but not the AVI movies, so I downloaded DiVX last night and it works for the AVI movies. This is ridiculous haha.

I decided to conquer the HD problem next, so I went to Best Buy earlier and they told me the Seagates work with Mac AND PC, so I bought two 2TB HDs for $90 each, which is nice because they were selling a 3TB for $239. Um, yeah. Anyway, I just tried doing some stuff with it and it says it needs to be reformatted too. ARGH!!! I was told I wouldn't have to reformat. This is getting on my nerves. "But it's SO much easier than using a PC!" Yeah I don't think so, not so far anyway. I never had this much trouble and financial hit with a PC. But I WILL conquer this!

Best Buy employees are stupid.
I bought my Seagate 1TB from NewEgg last year; it's the one that crashed my mac when i tried to format it to read my mac. You have to format any hard drive that is NTFS with Windows. You need to buy specific MAC OSX hard drives which are rarely any. You must format it.

formatting a hd shouldn't have crashed your mac if the hd was good. Whoever told you that you have to buy a mac specific hd was a moron, to read data off of them you don't have to reformat them, but to write to them you have to. Mac OSX can read ntfs partitions it just can't naturally write to it without some modifications. Easier way to fix that is to format it to a Format recognized by both and fully usable by both. I recommend fat32 so you can use it with friends that have pcs to share data. This being said fat32 isn't the most efficient way to store data since it doesn't have a indexing like ntfs or apple's partition method so if you are using it constantly to search for obscure data on the hd it will take longer and use up more system resources.

I do NOT pirate movies. And with that said...ARRRRRR! YOU SCALIWAG!!!

I`m Batman wrote:So basically, you pay a lot more for the same hardware as a PC. Then you spend all your time and money trying to make it become a PC and work like a PC. You don't ever see a PC having a MAC emulator. But MAC has multiple Windows emulators. If MAC is so much better like they say they are, why do they try to be like PC? LOL.

I'm still wondering this myself lol. I look at it this way...if I already know English (PC), why do I need to learn Swahili (Mac)? lol

I've seen that video. I love that video. It's exactly how I feel right now, but as the guy at Best Buy said, I'm "over thinking it". Um, yeah.

Also, I LOVE ONN.

Good to know.

Alright, Frank told me tonight that Bootcamp is already on my computer, which is what Dave was originally telling me about. I will be running Bootcamp by tomorrow and installing Windows 7. On Windows I will be able to transfer whatever I download onto the HD, and I will also use it to tune the car. With Mac I will simply surf the internet haha.

I was looking to reformat my HDs to Fat32, but with a limit of 30GB I don't feel like partitioning my HDs into 40 sub-HDs hahaha.

there are mac emulators for windows just for your information and plenty of people have taken the time to get mac osx running on a pc, which technically a mac is still a pc and what we call a pc should be called a windows.

^I always wondered why everyone calls it a PC when it seems to me that Mac was still a PC. PC is not the OS, haha.

I installed Boot Camp and installed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, but now it won't connect to the internet, even though I can get on with no problems on Mac.

Turns out I missed a step while setting it up. I didn't download everything I needed for Bootcamp to finish it's setup in Windows. It's all good now.

Tell Apple that. They're the one that called it PC in their commercials.
I've seen Mac VM or dual boot on Windows machines. Not sure about emulators.

i think the mac vs pc name debate was from when all Pc's had compatible hardware (for the most part. and mac wanted to set itself apart by integrating proprietary components INSIDE a monitor. and called it a mac to differentiate from its competition

exFAT supports single files larger than 4GB, and is supported by OSX 10.6.5 and later with read and write support. You don't need a MAC specific drive.

And yes, VLC should rock anything you throw at it.

The guy at Best Buy was adamant that I not reformat the HDs to exFAT, I believe he said they wouldn't work after that. I guess I will call somewhere else next time haha.

I believe it's not in it's final revisions yet. The biggest hazard at the moment is to make sure you do a proper 'eject' from whatever OS you're using to flush the write cache, as a bad eject can cause you to lose all your files on that volume.
