Ordered new IPD ignition coils and OEM plugs. They'll arrive next week, and are easy enough to install once they get here. Dude I bought the car from claimed he already swapped plugs, but he also told me he had swapped out struts as well. Grr.

Still need to install my R downpipe/remove center resonator, but I might just have a shop put in the DP when they cut out the resonator.

Contemplating going bigger on the sleeper wagon...potentially picking up a 16T (up from the current 13T baby turbo that's on there now) when I do the reflash. Should put me right around 260hp/320tq if the results are similar to other folks that have done the same thing on the LPT cars. Still just a thought though. Not sure if I have the stones to actually do it.

Stones? ha ha ha

I'd offer my assistance on the install, but we both know how that would end...

Coils and plugs are in. Found the intercooler piping was loose during the install. Tightened everything up and it's a happy camper of a car. I'm guessing that with the difference in "smoothness" that they were the original coils to the car. Plugs didn't look too bad, but they weren't tapped correctly. Swapped them with OEM ones. Noticed a slight oil leak on the top of the engine, common issue, just the oil cap gasket. All in all, i'm very pleased with the 20 minutes (ok, 30 with tightening the couplers) worth of work.

I think even you can undo 5 bolts and reinstall them in 20 minutes. However, the extra 10 for tightening the 2 clamps on the coupler probably would've been more like 90 minutes for ya.

This was a maintenance item that is beefier than stock. I expected merely a return of lost performance from worn/old items rather than any type of gains over stock.

That said, 35hp.

And tonight/tomorrow, the R downpipe goes on. While the coils/plug tuneup package has significantly improved things, the downpipe is really the first non-suspension performance mod to go on the wagon. Typical gains for others that have done the same on an XC has been 10-12hp. I picked up the DP last year and it's just been relaxing in the garage.

So, here's the current (or in the immediate future) setup of the wagon:

Suspension (completed, end result is 2" drop):
  • Front: New OEM Sachs struts with V70R springs. Meyle endlinks, V70R sway bar (stock is 19mm, R is 23mm)
  • New Poly bushings throughout.
  • New Control Arms, ball joints, outer tie rods
  • Rear: New OEM Sachs AWD shocks with S60 AWD springs. Meyle endlinks, V70R sway bar (stock sway is 14mm, R sway is 21)
  • OEM BBS Propus C wheels 17 x 7.5 with Kumho Ecsta ASX 235/55/17 (stock overall diameter)

Engine/performance (in progress)
  • IPD HD TCV (turbo control valve)
  • IPD Silicone couplers
  • IPD HD Ignition Coils
  • Wastegate mod
  • S60R DP/center reasonator delete (sometime this week)
  • Reflash (Stage 2) + 16T turbo upgrade (sometime this year, possibly spring)

I've done all of the other routine maintenance (plugs, fluids, brakes, etc) as well in the past, oh, 24 months.

So far, I've liked the outcome of the work I've done. The suspension is nearly right where I want it. Still have a slight side hop, so I may need another alignment to fix that (toe). Looking forward to stepping up the power just a bit. To this point, I've followed my standard upgrade path...standard maintenance, r/r, then brakes>suspension>engine.

Maintenance/repair time, ordered a new heater core and power steering hose. Both have leaks.
