I thought you were already done with yours?

Dave is gonna do some tuning on Apr 12th when he's in town. Other than that, I'm not sure lol. Hopefully we can get everything worked out that needs to be since I'll only have a week after that before we take off for NC.

VRx8 wrote:Got Intercooler?? lol looks really good. Why is the turbo IC pipe so small compared to the cold side IC pipe?

This IC is actually smaller than the old one haha. I'm hoping for better response.

The outlet of the turbo is only 2" and the rest of the piping is 2.75". Tom told me to run the 2" piping all the way to the IC so I wouldn't lose the pressure by going to 2.75" straight out of the turbo.

chickenwafer wrote:I think you should powdercoat your intercooler and charge pipes black....because our engine bays look too similar haha.

That's what I'm planning actually lol. It looks funny being different colors and some being shiny and some being unpolished lol. I want to drive the car and test it out first though, and make sure the IC and anything else doesn't leak. Ideally I'd take it to Premier Coatings where I took all the stuff before to make sure it matches, but I don't have that kind of time. So I'll take one of the pipes they did with me to the local place and see if they can match it pretty closely.

UPDATE:

I went to Tom's at lunch today and had him modify the oil drain for the turbo. He just tacked it together so I could test it first, and it's a good thing...I tested it after work and it needed more angle. I took it back down there and he fixed it and finished it. He had to use 3/4" piping right off the flange, then the 5/8" part he cut off because he didn't have any 5/8" piping and I wouldn't have been able to get the hose on the 3/4". It's not pretty, but you can't even see it and it works anyway so that's all I care about.

After that I put everything back in, filled it with fluids and fired it up!

And I think the oil catch can was smoking something, I've never seen this before lol...

I've seen that venting from a vented catch can. It's just oil fumes.

So I win the races with both you AND Dave? LOL

I was going to drop the car back down last night, but I figured since it was going to snow today anyway, why rush? Also, I wanted to test fit those new wheels and see how they look. I may just drop it down anyway. I'm dying to drive this thing haha.

Oh, Andy is still wanting to use your lift also, but I'm not sure I'm going to do any more car work between now and when we leave, other than maybe getting my stuff powder coated. So I told him if it's OK with you we can do it after I get back. Up to you though of course.

I know why he's doing that lol. Because I called and told him about the issue, they checked all their hoods and they all have problems, so he said the mold was bad and they didn't know it. He sent me a replacement that I'm picking up at FedEx today at lunch. They tried to deliver it Monday and yesterday but I wasn't home. I'm going to test fit the new one tonight, but from the pics he sent me a couple weeks ago it fits a lot better than the one I have now. And I'm going to send this one back to them so they can look at it.

I test drove the car tonight. Doesn't look like it's leaking anything, but now I have a vacuum leak I'm trying to find.

This turbo is bananas though! I can feel it pulling at 2k! It's not a whole lot, but still. It feels like it has full power between 3k and 3.5k, and the transitions between shifts feel like it doesn't even stop spooling. I love this thing.

I even got some waves and thumbs up from some girls on the way home from Eduardo's house LOL.

I test fit the new hood tonight too. It's still not perfect, but it's a lot closer than the last one.

This vacuum leak is killing me, but I'm going to try to get a smoke machine tomorrow I think. There is also one hose that I haven't checked and it's in heat shielding, so I'll check that tomorrow morning before work possibly.

Well, it's still smoking, but until this morning I figured it was just fuel. I checked my oil before work and it was a bit low . It better not be burning anymore. I need to check for leaks again. I think I'll jack the car up and use the pressure washer on the underside and go for some more drives, once I get the idle problem fixed.

I messed around with the hunting idle a bit more this morning (still under the impression it's a vacuum leak) and now it just idles at 2500 and doesn't hunt anymore. Rich told me he had a car with this problem and to check the ISC because it had failed, so I'm doing that this afternoon.

Not necessarily LOL. I haven't changed the cosmetics with this part of the build, I just finally happened upon some girls that liked it lol.

Yeah I'm stoked for this trip. I hope I can make it LOL.

I'm excited too, but like I said, I hope I can make it. I may go even if it is still burning oil, I'll just take a bunch with me lol.

I got home this afternoon and unplugged the ISC (idle speed control) and started the car. It still had a hunting idle. Actually at first it held a steady idle around 1500, and slowly rose to 2500 and held steady there. THEN it started hunting. While it was running I squeezed the vacuum lines closed one by one on the ends closest to the UIM to see if I could find one of them with a problem but didn't find anything. I called Steve at WRRoadRace and asked if he had a smoke machine and he did, so I told him I'd drive it over there. Right after I left my house, the idle straightened out and it's been fine since then :confused: So I no longer believe it's a vacuum leak, but I do still think it has a problem. I just don't know what that problem is.

After I got back from his shop, I jacked up the front of the car in the driveway and let it cool down so I could pressure wash under the engine. I washed the outside of the car too, along with the Pathfinder...might as well lol. I still have to check for more leaks to see if I'm really burning oil still or if it's a leak I'm not finding. This is really getting aggravating.

Well I guess there's no better time than 10 days before DGRR to rebuild my engine. The guy that rebuilt the engine keeps telling me that it's still good, but of course he would say that. Another friend is telling me that my spark plugs look like it's using a lot of oil. I did find a little oil on the back of the engine, and Thursday night I had pressure washed the bottom of the car. So either I do have a leak, or I just missed that part. When I drove the car Friday night, I started out with a full oil pan and ended with about 3/4 of a quart less, after driving about 50 miles. I thought about driving it to DGRR like this anyway, but at this point I'd be basically doing an oil change every time we stopped for gas. So either I'm rebuilding it, finding the problem if it's not needing a rebuild, or not going to DGRR.
