Wow, tonight sucked.

It started up fine at first, then I figured I'd try and see if it would idle on it's own while cold. Nope. Then it wouldn't start again. We towed it up the hill, I started it while rolling down the hill and tried to make it back in the garage but it died in the driveway. So we pushed it back up the hill, started on the roll down again, then died. Pushed it back up the hill, started on the roll down, died. Pushed it back up the hill, started on the roll down, I revved the shit out of it for a while, tried backing up, died. Pushed it back up the hill, started on the roll down, drive it straight into the garage and kept it at about 2k RPMs until Eduardo adjusted the throttle plate screw to hold it at 1900. Then we adjusted it down slowly all the way to around 1200. Shut it down a while later and tried to start it again, still won't start on it's own. I'm thinking it might be timing, not sure. It idles and runs fine once it's already started and warmed up, just won't start on it's own. I'm getting so sick of problems like this.

One good thing though...not smoking at all! WOOHOO!!! Thank goodness for small victories lol.

I bet your neighbors love you.

You'll get it worked out. Sounds like the typical problems when first getting a new motor going.

Chris, it was actually around 7 and 8pm that all this was going on, so its not like it was late haha. Leaving burnout marks in their driveways might piss them off a little though lol.

I've never had this much trouble starting a new engine.

David, I messed with it a little bit ago at lunch. I put an old map on the computer, one that has the ECU controlling idle. I started the car and it ran ok but it died without my foot on the gas. And then it wouldn't start again. So there's that problem still. Ugh.

I still say try the base mod map then change the map sensor stuff (you have a non stock one im assuming) and change all the necessary stuff for your injectors. Should work hahah.

Oscar came over tonight and we tried starting the car again. Well, it did start, but it only starts if it's been sitting for a day or so. This car is so freakin' weird now. We tried a couple new maps that Dave sent me and it started on one of them, but it wouldn't again later after it had died. I'm getting really frustrated with this thing.

I found the sample map that comes with the Datalogit and I combined the fuel and timing maps with the settings from Dave's fuel maps and the car starts every time now WOOHOO!! It's still taking a bit to start but at least it's starting. I want to smooth out the starting (so it starts right after turning the key instead of taking a bit) and I want to make sure the idle is good, then I'll be happy. I'll start breaking in the engine and get it tuned.

If I knew how to tune I would have been driving it the day after dropping the engine in LOL.

We'll get yours figured out man. Don't stress too much. Just use this as a learning experience.

glad to hear you got it going, and I now have a new windshield thanks to my parents buying me one for a birthday gift. So now we can go cruise together like we usually do on friday's when no one shows up.

Thanks guys!

Haha, yeah I was wondering when your windshield would be replaced. Good to hear. Now we just have to figure out what's wrong with Eduardo's transmission lol.

We went to the meet in Denver last night, and the car ran pretty much great. I started having issues with it dying on decel when I got off the highway back in CS last night, but I'll make sure that's sorted out eventually. At least it's running really well for the most part.

I thought I would be the one having problems last night (well, I did have problems, but it was my headlights flipping up and down uncontrollably because I washed the engine bay lol), but Zico's FC wouldn't start when we tried to leave Denver, so Matt (blue FC) towed it to his parents house up there and if they can't get it fixed I'm taking the trailer up there to get it tonight.

what was it doing and not doing when it wouldn't start cause that can help narrow down what the problem is pretty quick.

Well it wasn't starting, that's what it was doing lol. What do you mean exactly? Like how did I fix it on the map or what? I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, other than maybe changing the timing quite a bit in the starting area of the map. I still used Dave's settings so that didn't change, although I think we changed some things since then to more match the sample map.

Sunday afternoon I had a 2-cycle leak coming from the OMP lines at the OMP, so I tightened them down some more. I thought the problem was fixed but it looks like I'm still seeping some, I had more on the floor this morning. So I guess tonight I'll put on the new crush washers I got with the rebuild kit. Hopefully that fixes it.

I also need to put on an old map because again now it wants to die when going back to idle. It wasn't doing that on one of my old maps so I'm going to see what I can do about that.
