Tuning help for those with PFC and Datalogit

Postby speedjunkie » Sun Aug 26, 2012 9:14

For those of you with a Power FC and a datalogit (I really don't feel like removing mine anymore lol), I am telling you now because I'm kicking myself really hard for not doing this before. Get a wideband if you don't have one, figure out how to wire it into the datalogit so you can log the data and don't try to tune like a freaking caveman like I have been the last several years. GOOD GRIEF! It's insane how easy it is to tune the fuel map now. Even without the spreadsheet it would be easier without having to watch the wideband and figure out what cells need to be changed.

I wish I'd done this years ago.

Can this work on my wideband?

I imagine it will. You just gotta figure out how to wire it.

Unfortunately, due to Geico commercials, I now find the term caveman to be prejudice. :p

what additional information does the wideband provide you in your dataloggit output that made tuning easier?
I thought the car's ecu constantly worked to read the AFR and attempted to optimize it. If so, shouldn't the dtaloggit pick up the AFRs from the ecu? Please remember, I am completely new to cars, and don't turbo...

It will work with any wideband that outputs a 0-5v signal. It speeds up tuning exponentially once you have a solid base map with good timing and correction tables to tune from.

Eric, I've also been telling you to do this for over a year lol

New ECUs cam, such as factory ECUs, not the PowerFC which is an aftermarket standalone ECU that replaces the factory ECU. It doesn't have any kind of by intuitive WB02 sensor feedback, otherwise known as closed loop tuning.

Remember, the 3rd gen rx7 is an OBDI Car, so it doesn't have the mega processing power of the new cars. The factory ECU has an 8 bit processor! It does do some closed loop idle control, and so does the pfc, but that is also with an older narrow band 02 sensor, so it isn't as accurate or reliable as a wideband sensor.

Really, I could go on a for a long, long time on the differences. But the Datalogit is just a tuning interface for the standalone Pfc ECU, so no factory equipment remains.

Yeah I know, I just figured it would be much more difficult than that lol. Hooking up the yellow wire and making a ground wire...really?! lol
