I cant say i have done anything, considering my 3 is the first car ive modded.

Back in 1997 I had a 95 Grand Am, my first car. My ricer friends convinced me I needed to put wheels on it, but I never did because I viewed that as putting glass slippers on a ho. However, I did paint some interior pieces white (the face for the gauge cluster and some other accent pieces) and I also recovered the door panels in gray tweed. Now that I look back, it was truly horrible lol. I was going to paint the air vents white also but I don't remember if I ever got around to it. I know I had them removed for a long time in order to paint them and my buddy kept giving me shit about it.

Dead serious! My first car was a Chrysler Concorde with a blown head gasket, had that for like 4 months. Then i drove a 1992 Saturn around, that was this disgusting purple color, had 230k miles haha. I bought my first car which was an an Acura Legend, stock minus HID's, and then a stock Acura TL type-S and the tranny went out before i could do anything to it so here i am! Unless you guys consider white wheels rice i think ill sit back and laugh at this thread! ;)

Ouch. I haven't read the rules, or really kept up with the Madison since I left, but if you track down their site, you might observe a few interesting things from a team that is consistently top 10, and has been #1 a few times.

Some things I'll point out based on my experiences, for what they are worth.
The engine is always the same.
The frame is always the same, with minor tweaks.
Madison never did aero (until last year, apparently, which was a bit of a surprise to me since I know we constantly researched it every year I was there).
Madison tests every weekend, rain, snow, or shine. Having the previous 2-3 cars around helps.
Weight is king. I personally redesigned wiring harnesses multiple times just to shave a couple ounces of weight since it adds up little by little.

Looking at the info from 2012 Michigan results, it looks like there's a few different engines used, but the general idea is a 600cc inline 4 motorcycle engine. Our team uses the CBR600 (might be the CBR600RR?) engine as do a few teams in the top 10. Most teams appear to be doing monocoque frame which from what I gather has been a bit outside our reach but there are plans for it soon. We haven't had an aero kit for a good 10 years or so. This year is the first time we're doing one in like a decade I believe. And we also have 3 old cars around (well, 2 right now). 09 is currently at a local museum as part of a display, R11 is in the garage missing a few drivetrain components, and R12 is in the garage on the dyno and finally runs again (apparently it had reliability issues at competition). And we consistently have one of, if not the, lightest 4 cylinder cars at competition. R11 car was 397lbs and R12 was 417lbs which appears to be lighter than any car in the top 10. I'm hoping to push for E85 at some point before I leave to make a bit more power hopefully.

i cut the springs waay too much so it was practically rolling on just shocks... drove it like that for a week and couldn't take it anymore.

My mods have tended more towards redneck than rice. When my '85 CRX SI got rearended (by my dad, trying to push start down the road), the bumper cover was ok, but the bumper wasn't. Pressure treated 4x4 to the rescue! Thankfully that mod wasn't visible. I sure wouldn't mind having my old stock 89 CRX SI back, either. I suppose the closest to rice was the carbon fibre engine cover on the RX8, and the torque damper (at least that was free!).

and why would an engine torque dampener be rice?
