Yeah, maybe the cylinder head is reusable because it's past the oil filter and hopefully not in direct contact with the fragments. You still probably need to overhaul it or anything else reused.

I'll toss out that when I was rebuilding the D16Y8 civic engine after a spun rod bearing, I took the crankshaft and pistons/rods to Colorado Custom Cylinder Heads for evaluation and remachining, for a fair price as a pure shop service. Anyway, they did the job right, sizing replacing bearings. Everything came together very well on that rebuild, last summer/fall.

funk paying for that, I did once back when it was $10, only to find out your 'vip' status has to be renewed every year, and they upped it to $25. All to be treated like shit by all the douchebags there, no thanks.

No big deal. I like dealing locally as a general rule anyway, so I might see who MoFab uses for engine builds and see if I can get them to massage the engine I get from Groove, before it gets put back in.

Were you able to allude to the recent vvt replacement, as a possible culprit? Or should I say, sounds like you were able to put some doubt/liability in their minds...as they are covering labor. Glad to hear about that. Are the parts being sold to you at "cost"?

I didn't really press the matter about the VVT, all things considered. And no, the cost of the engine is still "retail". Alas...

Welp.... the new engine is in the car. I stopped by the shop today and while there's still a solid 4 hours of work left before she is ready to roll out, it looks like the hard stuff is done.

Dan my mechanic, pointed out the hole that I blew in the block. Said he'd never really seen anything like that before. It definitely did not mess around! I'll try and get a picture taken sometime tomorrow. Aside from that though, he said that the head looked fine and there may be other parts that might be valuable to somebody down the road.

Anybody need parts?
