A pedal bike for the youngster

My son has officially graduated from his Strider bike to a pedal bike. We're using training wheels for a bit, but he's already excited to take them off. We have them on their highest setting currently. Our neighbor is borrowing his Strider for their son to see if he likes it our not. I highly recommend the Strider/balance bike for learning. My son's favorite thing about riding it was when he learned to coast with both feet off the ground.

We went with a 16" Specialized Hotrock for his pedal bike. A bit pricey, but I like the design/weight of this versus the cheaper rides out there.

He is going to be hooked on high quality bikes now miT. Nice choice. There are some great bike parks/jump zones relatively close to you. Once he is old enough to really get going, he has great places to really rip (not to mention some of the xc trails close enough).

I'll just be happy to maintain his interest in physical activities rather than becoming a couch potato.

No, "cool" and "Roadie" are mutually exclusive adjectives for males. You could say someone is "pretty cool, for a Roadie", but that does not make the "Roadie" cool relative to a population other than the "Roadie" population. :huh:

It took a while, but we finally pulled the training wheels off a little over a month ago. Thanks to the glider bike, he made the transition with no problems at all. He asked me to hold on to him, and once he started pedaling, I let go of the seat and away he went with no issue. The way he rides now, I would've have thought we took the wheels off only a short time ago. Crazy how quickly kids pick things up.

When did you start him on the Strider/balance bike? I'd like to get one for my daughter once she gets a little bigger.

Probably around 2 or so. I think it made the transition to pedal a lot easier. He would coast quite a bit on the strider with his feet up in the air.

As soon as a kid can walk in a straight line, I'd put a strider on them. Maybe even before then, but I am really into bicycles.
