I dropped the car off yesterday for it's final buffing, paint touch-up, and pin striping. I'm going to pick the car up tomorrow.

I just ordered Caswell Epoxy Gas Tank Sealer Car Kit to take care of my tank rust problem. Once I get the tank taken car of, I'll send the fuel injectors out again for a cleaning. The sealer should be here some time next week. So I plan to do the work the weekend after.

This weekend, I'm going to install the new heater control valve. I'm not really excited about removing the entire dash. I'll be swapping out the carpet at the same time.

I'll get lots of pictures of this project.

I have the dash pulled.

It took me a total of 3 hours. I also cleaned my used replacement carpet.

I still need to pull a couple of pieces to replace the carpet (easy stuff). I also have to swap out the heater control valve, the heater box is already pulled.

WOW good work. Hope it goes back together easier, and you find as much money under your carpet as Huzer did!

The car is back together and I have heat. Thanks to shadow for help putting everything back in.

Total time for the project was about 8 hours. It was way easier than I thought it would be. It could have been done in closer to 6 hours if it was just reinstalled instead of cleaned, etc. We cleaned all the parts before the install. I also put silver duct tape on all the heater pipes. The carpet was replaced finally as well.

I'll do a full how-to on this project.

I thought the new carpet really rejuvenated the car. Considering the cleanliness of the interior and the engine bay now, it's hard to imagine the car is as old as it is.

I pulled the gas tank on Friday and sealed it. I went with Caswell Epoxy Gas Tank Sealer kit. http://www.caswellplating.com/restoration-aids/epoxy-gas-tank-sealer.html

It had really good reviews. What I liked about it is it's actually a 2 part epoxy. Other sealers are not. I used their 20 gallon kit. I have a 16 gallon tank but I do have baffles. The sealer is very thick which made it hard to work with. I do with I would have purchased 2 kits. I do think I got most of the tank sealed. The problem I had is there is no way to see how I did behind the baffles which cover any view of 2/3 of the inside of the tank. I do know I missed a few small spots in the area I can see.

I'll be re-installing the tank tonight. I was required to leave the tank in 70+deg for 24-36 hours. I had the tank in the garage with an electric heater blowing on it for the full day and a half. There is also a 3-4 day cure time before I can put gas back in it.

My fingers are crossed that this works.

I ordered a new heater core for the car. The heater core was leaking as well as the heater control valve. I'll have to pull the dash back out. The core was supposed to arrive on the 11th through Rock Auto but it hasn't even left yet. I talked to them and It is ready to ship but the USPS isn't good at actually picking things up at that warehouse. This is the first time I've run into this.

I looked at getting a OEM heater core but it costs over $300 and the after market costs $85.

Need a nice warm day to pull the dash. Don't want cold/brittle tabs when it gets pulled.

Keep me posted!

I've had good experiences with that tire on my Miata. Handle pretty well in the summer and can even handle light snow.
