Well the car is now in the shop for a third time concerning my flashing airbag light.
The first time around they couldn't duplicate.
Second time they pulled a low voltage code, and sure enough my battery was failing. Got it tested at three independant places and they all confirmed that the cold cramking amps were not where they should, or needed to be. So I got the battery replaced, 50% covered under warranty. I would suggest everyone getting their battery checked, especially now that it is a little colder. Apparently the factory battery is a piece of junk.
So, the new battery didn't fix the problem, which both me and my service advisor knew that it wouldn't, but we both decided to take the path of least resistance.
So now for the third time it is in the shop, but no they are replacing the passenger side airbag sensor and recalibrating it. It requires pulling the passenger side seat out to get to the tracks mounts below. Hopefully this will take car of the problem.
In the mean time I get to drive a sweet ass dodge caliber. Thing does 0 to 60 slower than my bicycle with my fat ass on it.

Remember: 2 throttle positions with a rental: pinned to the firewall AND pinned to the firewall while using the hand brake/foot brake to modulate speed.
When I was working for Boeing in KS, I would get sent to Seattle on business. The hotel I stayed at was right on the water (beautiful!) and at the bottom of a very long and steep hill. The speed limit on the road was only like 25 mph and cops patroled it very frequently. So I'd use the hand brake to modulate speed all the way down (didn't have the throttle pinned to the firewall, sorry). But if I clicked it too much, I imposed a rule- you couldn't unclick the handle until the bottom. So if I added too much brake and was slowing down, I'd have to use the throttle to maintain speed. Once someone slowed way down in front of me and I had to fully engage the parking brake (after it was already SUPER hot) but then we resumed normal speed and I'm on the throttle with the rear tires on the verge of wanting to lock up. At the bottom of the hill is stop sign. When I stopped at that stop sign, the car was engulfed by the trailing cloud of hot/burning brakes (mainly just the smell- very little smoke). My hotel was near that stop sign and I would go and immediately park the car- still leaving the parking brake fully engaged (which is the WORST thing you can do with hot brakes!!!). Play that game everyday for 2 weeks. Good times!
Does your Caliber have the CVT (Constant Velocity Transmission)? You'll notice it if you're listening/looking for it. If the car doesn't shift gears, it has a CVT. My Saturn club holds a rally every year near the Chicago area and in 2006, someone rented a Caliber for the track portion of it:

The batteries are warranied, but they have a eclining percentage rule. I don't know the exact breakdown, but something like 100% in the first 6 months then 75% at one year, and so on and so forth.
I've been beating the crap out of this car, it was a lot of fun yesterday morning when I first got it for the drive into work. I miss the fun you can have in the snow with only 2 powered wheels.

I got about 5 new batteries last year all for free before they slapped on a new alernator. Never heard of this 100, 50, 25% thing before.
The mazda battery warrenty is pretty much the same as all manufactures.
100% replacement during the 1st year
50% replacement during the 2nd year

Well it never fails, they ordered the seat sensor for the US built 6 and not for the japanese built speed6. I got to the dealer and my car was sitting there is pieces so I said fuck it, just call me when it is all done. So, I guess I get the weekend to trash this dodge some more.
It does have that CVT you were talking about tom, but only during constant acceleration, I can feel it shift after I let off the gas, but when your on it, it is smooth, if not strange. The thing stays are 6500 rpm for like 2 minutes straight on highway runs. A little weird for my taste.

Update:
They got the new sensor and mount in, but apparently that caused even more serious problems. The car started throwing all sorts of airbag codes and could not be started, safety device that kills the engine once the airbag is deployed.
They had to call up mazda tech line to try a figure out what was going wrong. Traced the problem back to the connection between the computer and the seat sensor, some sort of short in the actual connection. So they had to order new connectors.
After all is said and done a 2.5 hour project has now turnied into almost a week. I should get my car back this afternoon barring any other problems. At least I got them to put me in a mazda 6s before the snowstorm hit, handles much better in the snow compaired to the POS dodge caliber.

Hey Patrick. I had to replace my battery last month as it would only hold a charge for like 24 hours.
I replaced mine with a red top (mainly as I have two amps in the car)...but yeah...those oem batteries suck nasty hairy balls...lol.[/b]
