Has anybody seen this?

There is alot of speculation Ive read about already on this. there is obviously a major issue for them to immediately stop the sale of these.. I took my filter off this morning and it was brown, and moist....That cant be good... Im gonna convert it to an sri today..

Eww ouch on yer brown and moist...

I believe its due to the maf housing... People say its cause carb but come on thats a BS expectation. Somethings fucked and they finally realized it so we'll see what happens.

I have been looking for an excuse to switch to a SRI, hopefully there will be some kind of monetary compensation for those that already purchased one. I wonder if AEM is doing the same thing with their CAI since they are the same.

Wow...lots of stuff Mazda released on the 14th...3 new or updated RX-8 TSBs, too. That sucks about the CAI.

+1 on the compensation. I would even take it in the form of some kind of Mazda credit and a free swapout back to the stock box.

The recall doesn't say anything about previously sold units.

My AEM has had no problems what so ever. It's probably a filter problem. If it's a cotton filter than that would probably be the cause of it because my synethic filter is fine.

i didnt have any problems with mine either. i did convert it to a sri though cause i was losing power with it up top.

ahhh....still with the vents in the wheel well in the 6, right behind the CAI I was wondering why this hadn't happened sooner. I covered mine up (as I've said so many times)and my intake filter is mildly dirty but not wet.

I cut mine up this morning, went for a drive to make sure no CEL's or anything, and I datalogged about 2 minutes, and saw boost spikes as high as 18.40, where as before, the highest was 17.50, NEVER got into the 18's.

I hate to say it, but I should have done this a while ago.. Ive heard people say there is no difference between cai and sri in terms of power, but I can definitely feel a difference. It seems to pull harder from the get-go.. Dashhawk is reading about 30-40 degrees warmer on the IAT, the car loves it..

I got a hacksaw if anybody needs it :delicious:

Hmmmm, a lower IAT would give more power in theory. Interesting, very interesting

I'm with RMSpeed6... lower IAT's should give you more power in theory, if your car was NA, in theory, you should have lost power (even if only a negligible amount) ... but then again, there's more to it than that on a turbo car, seeing how the ambient air from the intake is sucked into the turbo, where's it's compressed, which heats it significantly, and is then routed through the intercooler where it's cooled significantly.... some say, on a turbo car, the efficiency of your intercooler is FAR more important than the placement of your intake filter.

Although, with less piping, SRI's typically give slightly better throttle response. Extra power felt could be attributed to a number of things, especially with the MS6's timing crazy ECU. Odd that you would see an increase in boost though... if you're seeing almost 1psi of extra boost, there's no doubt, the extra power you're feeling didn't come from the SRI directly, it came from the extra boost the wastegate isn't bleeding off/turbo is pushing. Did you reset the ECU? What are you running for boost control? Any engine management device? If you're running a stock ECU, no boost control it might just be the BCS trying to readjust itself for the changes in the amount of piping that has to be charged by ambient air being drawn into the compressor housing?!?

Reset the ECU, and see if you can feel a difference. It should honestly be negligible on a turbo car with mild mods...
