Which I could see being a factor in a mid-size sedan comparo, but not in a sports car comparo IMO. Sometimes I honestly don't think C&D gives a shit about performance lol, take a look at a comparo they did a couple years ago with the MS6, Jetta GLI, Accord, TSX & G6.... the MS6 was the winner in almost every performance category and yet somehow came in 4th out of 5 cars. Or another article I read of theirs about the VW R32, and how if they had included in a comparo with the STI & EVO, the R32 probably would have been compared the victor.... when I read that, all I could think of was "WTF? How does that slow ass car even begin to compete with the EVO/STI?" It's a much nicer car, no doubt, but while VW was spending money making the interior nice, Mitsu & Subie were spending their money making their cars haul ass. Which is why I usually stick with SCC, as they put overall performance above everything else, kind of like me lol.[/rant]

Reading the C&D article, if they hadn't put rankings next to the numbers, I would've thought that the RX-8 came in 3rd or 4th. The opening paragraphs about the car are less than flattering. I'm usually not big on comparo tests anyway. Mags should either go with the hard numbers to choose a winner, or just compare the cars and not really choose a "winner" per se. Comparisons are all subjective.

These guyscould help you.

Those CnD guys sound like idiots. [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img] Where do they get these knuckleheads? They're testing sports cars (made to seat 2 - sometimes have useless rear seats), and they're worried about road noise and all the little bits of extras. They didn't even have a set of cars equally equipped. All I want in a sports car, is looks, speed, acceleration and a car I can "read" around corners.

The "verdict" makes me laugh.. "100 horsepower shy of perfect", but they've got 4 paragraphs about how not perfect it is. Honestly. I like Huzer21's response - in comparison's, cars shouldn't be ranked, they should just be compared. In reality, we do live in a world filled with opinions and to each their own.

The 8 is on my list of things to drive when I'm ready to trade the 6. The Z is not--I just don't like the look. I don't even think about Audis on my budget. And Since my dad has a Shelby GT, I'm not going to copy cat him.

I don't think the 'Stang should have been on the list. It's a muscle car, not a sports car. Yeah, it's a coupe, but different class IMHO.

Now comparing the Z, the 8, the TT, the Solstice GTP, the Z3, etc...different story.

I think the comparo didn't include the Solstice & Z4 (Z3 was replaced a few years ago) because it was supposed to be between sports coupes as opposed to roadsters. As far as the Mustang goes.... I agree it's more of a pony/muscle car than a sports car, which is why I think they used the Shelby version, as IIRC the entire suspension was upgrades, springs, shocks, sway bars ect. The Shelby version is supposed to be for muscle car guys that also like to drive in something other than straight lines occasionally.

Shorty, there should be another car that should compete in this segment.... from an unlikely source.... Hyundai. Their new replacement for the Tiburon should be coming soon, it will be RWD, and from what I've heard will have a standard V6, which is said to be Hyundai's 3.8L motor that currently makes 263hp, but it's also said there will be a 4.6L V8 option.... to me it sounds like a recipe for dirt cheap performance [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

Yes, I read about the new Tibby. If they produce that V8 version with 325 HP like I've read, but keep the weight about the same -- DAMN.

Hyundai has really been coming up in the world lately lol. I've also read it will most likely be based on an independent multi-link rear suspension, so it should be fairly sporty. It's going to be funny to see the Mustang GT's newest competition is made by Hyundai lol.

And that suspension was designed by Porsche...impressive. But it's a 2010 model, I think....
