you know I was looking at the practicality of these choices the mini is very expensive, considering what you pay for it.
I'm all about cute but there are limits.
the prius, is.. well bfugly and expensive,
the avalon is also some serious $$$, and corvette is hardly a family car. maybe just me. ...and i'm spent.

That article is worthless.... "Best" is subjective.... everyone has their own "best" features they're looking for. I don't think anyone can say what the "best cars for your money are", as everyone has different needs/wants, not to mention budgets. Is a C6 a damn good bang for your buck car? Absolutely... can everyone afford it? Nope. Would it function well for an only car that's a daily driver for a soccer mom with 4 kids? Not likely. There's no such thing as overall "best cars"... just POS companies like IntelliChoice.com that don't mind taking kickbacks from GM & Toyota for advertising...
I have needs/wants in a car....
-I hate boring cars. I like to have fun during my commute. I take on-ramps at "fun" speeds as often as I can, enjoy corner carving down my favorite back roads, and don't mind embarrassing the occasional Joe Blow who thinks his Mustang GT is fast. So for me, power and handling are important.
-It would be tough for me to afford 2 car payments, so my "fun car" also has to be my daily driver.
-As it's my daily driver, I need my car to be reliable and stay out of the shop. So, most older cars with high mileage are out of the question.
-I drive through the winter snows everyday to work. That combined with the fact that I love traction, in the Denver area, makes AWD a must for me, and not just for snow, but also for drag strips, autoX ect.
-My wife is pregnant, so I need 4 doors, and a usable trunk.
-I honestly can't afford over about $30k, or at least I'm not willing to stretch myself that thin.
-I will only drive a manual transmission.
-I don't like leather, for various reasons, it's not even an option. I don't want/need Navi, can't justify the costs. I don't like convertibles and don't care for moonroofs mostly just due to the fact that I'm 6'2" and appreciate the extra headroom you get with a hardtop. So basically, for me, Perofmance>Luxury.
^^^So, that's what interests me... NONE of the cars on that stupid list come close to my own personal "best" car. For me, it comes down to the WRX, STI, EVO, Mazdaspeed 6, Legacy GT, VW R32 and maybe a stripped down base Audi A4 Quattro & BMW 325xi. I've driven the A4, 325/328xi (couldn't afford a 335xi), & VW R32... at this altitude, I think they're slow as hell. They also give up a performance for comfort & convenience... scratch them off the list.... some people would prefer the comfort, but I'm a performance junkie. I owned both the WRX & Speed6... liked them both, great cars for the money for someone like me, but it goes back to my first priority, and the EVO/STI are just more fun to drive... I test drove a LGT the day before I bought my STI... it was fun, fairly quick, nice interior ect, it's a great compromise car, but it all came down to one fact- It didn't offer the same amount of "smiles per hour" as the EVO/STI did, at least not for me... some people would rather have the smoother ride, nicer interior ect, and those things would bring more "smiles per hour" for them, I'm just not one of them.... so it came down to the EVO & STI... I like Subaru. I hate Mitsubishi. Simple as that lol.
So for me, the STI is my own personal "best car"... everyone has their own "best car", and I bet for most of the people on this board, it's not one of the cars on their list.
With that said, I love both the C6 & Mini Cooper S, if I could afford a 2nd car payment, I would consider either of them... but alas, the STI suits me much better, and more importantly, fits my own personal needs/wants for a daily driver. Just my $.02

i do agree with all of that. the RX-7 has just the right (as you say) "smiles per hour" for me. and i do have to agree i go for performance> style. i like the rough ride and the ability to slide the back end out everytime i can get away with it. now the C6 yeah i could do the same. and the mini i will say are pretty fast but at the same time there corning i'm not a fan of.
T4 turbo, custom magnaflow exauhst, intake
