Tibby Drivers

So my daughter's friend Jake used to drive a V6 Tiburon. I think I told you guys he wanted to meet at the track someday and race against my old 6S. He'd brag about how his car would smoke mine, even though they both were rated at the exact same 0-60 time. Finally, I ended up proving that his car was just a tad slower than mine. He later traded it on an accent because mommy and daddy didn't want to pay for the Tibby and his tickets any more.

Anyway, I showed him the Speed6 last night. He got very quiet as he stared at the intercooler and read, "2.3L DISI TURBO" on top. I asked him, "So, now what about your old Tiburon versus THIS?"

Him: "Well...my Tibby had a turbo."

Me: "It did?"

Him: "I think so."

Me: "You always said it was stock. They don't have stock turbos."

Him: "The guy who owned it before me put a turbo and an exhaust on it."

LOL. OK. Whatever. Go get your old POS Tibby and meet me at Bandimere. Sheesh.

I know. If there's a turbo in your car, you would probably KNOW it. And a turbo-bossted V6 Tibby WOULD have smoked my 6S.

I dont know about the guy, but I got to drive a Tiburon once, and it was unexpectedly very pleasant to drive. Too bad that a lot of their owners rice the shit out of them just like Hondas .

i had a tibby before my RX-8 and and there is no way it was faster then my 8 and your MS6 would own my 8 and to put a turbo in a tib it would cost allot more then a teen would have at least when i had mine 3 years ago he seems like the kind that loves to talk shit but cant back the shit he talks up lol

I have this problem with Honda drivers. I had to tell them they are not even worth my gas.

When I had my Talon, I was always under scrutiny before anyone would try to challenge me. They would get in front of me, look into their rear view mirror and search for a FMIC. They must been thinking: "that little sucker is NOT turboed... I'll smoke him". HAHA. Little did they know I had a ICE intercooler running on a tank of dry ice with alcohol mixture coolant. Good old days

I've met a few Tibby owners like that... short story, when I had my WRX, I was challenged by a Tibby while I was still in Texas... now, at sea level, my buddy Jimmy's Tibby with an AEM intake, GReddy cat-back, and ported (can't remember the company that did the port) intake manifold & throttle body, he could keep up with my buddy Andy's bone stock WRX from a freeway roll.... so it wasn't completely out of the question scenario... but my WRX was nowhere near stock.

The thing was, I was running a TXS Stealthback exhaust, with a Prodrive axleback, the Prodrive was oval, and extremely subtle, VERY OEM looking, so the car wasn't too loud, you would never guess the power it was making, I had a larger TMIC, pulley, up-pipe, and was running a VF34 turbo (tuned for 20psi), 565cc injectors & a Walbro 255. I put down 306whp on that setup after tuning via Ecutek software. Not to mention, I was running an STi RA V.6 gearset, so all my gears (except 1st) were shorter than stock. Other than the Rota SDR wheels, and OEM looking Prodrive axleback, that car looked bone stock from the outside.

So, I'm in Temple Texas, just east of Killeen/Ft Hood, my buddy Jimmy is in the car with me, and these 2 kids in a Tibby pull along side of us.... I wasn't paying any attention to them, but they pulled along side me and started revving.... I noticed they had an aftermarket exhaust, but thought nothing of it... I looked over at them, laughed, and gave them the "no thanks" wave... but, they didn't stop, along with revving, they gassed it a couple times in gear... after almost a minute of this... well, I guess I'm easily goaded... I looked over, revved back, and they went WOT... then I went WOT... I pulled bus lengths from a roll. With ease. If you were watching, unless you heard the Tibby go WOT (which we could hear due to his stupid loud exhaust), you wouldn't have even called it a race, just a murdering. The look on the driver's face when I finally hit the brakes to get back down to the speed limit... he drove by, and had the most confused/astonished look on his face, like "WTF?"... needless to say, he didn't try for a rematch, as I think he was trying to show off to his buddy, and obviously got a little embarrassed. My buddy Jimmy was laughing the whole time lol.

With mods listed above, IIRC, my buddy Jimmy's Tibby was running high 14's at out local track (Temple Academy Dragway) trapping around 93-94mph or so... and he had quite a few mods. The fastest my WRX ran on that setup was 12.7@108mph. Silly ricer Tibby owners
