Oops--I read your post as saying that it "does not" sell in the US :) It's a Hyundai Atos. Branded as Dodge down there though apparently...

It's not what you drive, it's how you drive it.

Ding Ding Ding! We a have winner!

Ranger wins it with the first correct answering! MazdaGurl with a close second! It is a Hyundai Atos. It is branded as Hyundai down here even though Dodge/Chrysler owns a majority stake (or owns it outright, I am too drunk to remember right now) in Hyundai. It is actually the second one I have driven while traveling. They are amazingly comical vehicles.

I will have to find something to send you from here (Playa Del Carmen) or from Snowmass Village for your winning answer. Thank you all for playing! Any specific requests... Pens, Tequila, Kahlua?... I make some pretty cool Aspen wood stemmed wine glasses these days... Let me know.

Yes, it is about as big as a shoe box.... Check out how close the 13 inch wheels are to the ends of the body. It does OK at sea level (OK being a understatement), but heaven help ya if you had to drive one of these uphill in our mountains.

This is the first newer car I have driven that has no radio, and no power steering. I'll look before I return it on Saturday to see if it is actually the 3 cylinder that I think it is. I have never felt a vehicle with such a short power curve and short clutch action... Mass torque at 3000 rpm then down from there, and maybe 1/2 inch between fully engaged and fully dis-engaged on the clutch... Go figure. But hey, it was mega cheap and does what we need it to do (barely) until we get to the resort on Saturday and then a car is no longer needed.

Make sure you hop the ferry over to Cozumel, then take a scooter to the east side of the island. Have the grilled seafood platter for 2 at that little restaurant on the beach.

Which restaurant? There are at least four of them on that side of the island. ;) We stayed on Cozumel last year. :D

If you're serious about this...umm, a pen or wine glass would be fine. My stomach is killing me right now so I don't want to think about alcohol

Sure! Totally serious... After I get back (Sat-Sun), I'll hammer out the specifics with you. It's your choice.

Here is a example of the wine glasses (with a matching bottle stopper). It was a part of our gift for the wedding we attended here.

On another note about this trip... Did you know it is illegal to drive and talk on your cell phone here?

I found this out the hard way while driving my bad-ass iguana powered Mexican ride after picking up my wife and another person we know, from where the bride and most of the wedding party are staying to where the wedding is going to be held (near where I was staying). I got them in the car and were boppin' through Playa Del Carmen, when my insurance agent calls with a few more questions about a issue that I was talking with him about 30 minutes earlier. After a minute or two, I have a moto cop beside me signaling me to pull over (swell... me no speak the spanish... neither does the wife much or the passenger with us). He comes up and starts speaking to me like I can talk the lingo... I ask "Do you speak English? Me no Espanol!" He says "no"... And keeps speaking to me in Spanish... Ugh! I understand enough to realize he's talking about me being on the phone and that I did blow a stop sign or run someone over. I try to apologize and say I didn't know and it wouldn't happen again, and I think he's gonna be OK about it when he goes to his bike parked in front of us and grabs his ticket book... As he's walking back, our passenger (a deputy) says, "should I badge him?" I say... "I dunno. Is he really gonna write me for that?" When he comes back we all try to talk him out of it some more... He's like no, no, no... Finally our friend whips out her badge and hands it to me give to him... He looks at it, and looks back at me, hands me the badge and waves us on.

It ain't what ya know, it's who you know! :p
