Bigger problem being that I can't do it myself since I've never rebuilt a rotary...I only know how they work. And with the cost of turbos it would still be out of my budget. I don't know...I'm really confused now...it's back to square one for me. I either try and get the insurance company to pay me directly and rebuild it myself with my (rotary knowledgeable) friend, or let it be totaled and take a check, or let it be totaled and buy it back, then use the leftover money to fix it.

It looks like I can get a used crate motor for around $1500, but then I would still have to rebuild it, buy turbos, and get the various other things it needs (wiring harness and knock sensor being the biggest ones). I will see if I can get Precision to buy all that stuff for me. (Remember I don't have the money to pay for it out of pocket and it will be hard to get my insurance to pay me directly.)

i really really think precision is screwing you.

call Zico or Eric (pm me for their number in case so i dont have to make their info public)

zico has a shop, that it legimate buisness, they could the work right and cheaper and the insurance company would probably deal with them more than you personally. PLUS they know FDs.

Yeah I have no idea who those people are. I had only heard about Precision. If you could PM me their info that'd be great. How do you know they know FDs?

You can pick up used stock turbos for around $300 with very little shaft play. New housings will definitely cost you around $1000 a piece, but you can find people selling used housings all the time on the other forums. It sounds to me that Precision could be selling you a line of shit since its rare that you hear of bad E-shafts. There are quite a few of us (Including Zico and Eric) down here in the Springs that are very familiar with FD's since we have no choice. We just rebuilt an FD motor recently. There is really not that much to it.

If you do decide to shell it out, let me know. I would like to LSx it and have it sit next to the Wankel.

Sure you do, I'm Eric and I gave you the CAT and air pump down at Pueblo when your Porsche had an oil problem, haha. Zico was there too, so was Corey.

Oh yeah, I have plenty of parts, haha.

Oh Alex, I wasn't really planning on selling the engine, I still need to tear it apart though. I really want to rebuilt it really strong for when this engine goes out...which with my luck, is probably pretty soon haha.

Thanks man! Haven't seen you in a while, where have you been?

Yeah we just rebuilt Simon's engine, just for now, replacing only the broken parts and without spec'ing anything. Still trying to get it started, apparently some bad wiring in the ignition coil.

Like Corey said, turbos can be found for pretty cheap, the housings will be pricy though and harder to find. Might want to go with new housings anyway.

Oh damn! Haha I forgot your name was Eric :( Well, I'm thinking I'm going to try to convince my insurance company to tow it down to a police station so I can have a vin verification done, then go to the DMV and get a title for it. Then my insurance company will pay me directly. I don't think Precision is trying to sell me a line of shit, I just think they are just wanting to use all new stuff, hence the price. Another thing I forgot about is that if I don't have Precision do the rebuild they are going to charge me something like $800 for pulling the engine and taking it apart / diagnosing it  Well, we'll see what happens...maybe I can get Precision to use the money from my insurance company to buy a used longblock and turbos for me.

I just talked with precision and they are ok with using the insurance money to buy a used, rebuilt long block. I can get a rebuilt, street ported engine with new rotor housings and 2mm ALS seals for $3550. I don't know how the f**k precision came up with $10k. I also found a pair of low mileage stock twins and a wiring harness for $700. If I went with a motor with stock ports and used housings (proven good compression), that'd only be $2500. Motor would come from these guys:

http://www.rotaryrebuildstore.com/index.php

They seem legit. They're a vendor on RX7 club. So it looks like it's not so bad after all...too bad I can't ever get ahold of my claims adjuster though...he's out of the office like twice a week...

Sounds good man, good luck with all that.

Just a word of advice, I don't know that I'd trust RX7club too much anymore. I'm not saying RotaryRebuildStore isn't legit, I don't know anything about them. I'm just trying to tell you RotaryCarClub.com is shaping up to be a much better forum with more upstanding people. Just a word of advice.
