Windshield Installation

Postby ms. D » Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:14

Anybody do this? I bought my car brand new in September and the 2nd day I had her, a semi through a huge rock right into my window and caused a spider web crack. Elite Auto Glass "repaired" it, the weather yesterday ruined that. I hit a pot hole in the snow and it cracked even more. There is also a chip in the bottom of the window in the middle (gotta love working in Aurora and driving down I-70 behind effing semi's). So annoying. So if you know anyone that does windshield installation for good price (I've been quoted at around $800-$900) PLEASE hook it up! Thanks :)

P.S. I could probably go without replacing the windshield but I'd rather not. Opinions?

Holy smokes! That's alot (last I remember windshields were ~350.00)- Last I heard, most insurance companies covered windshield repair AND replacement; as its a liability. They may have changed policies since I looked checked last. Last time I got a chip, my insurance covered windshield repair. Insurance companies are eager to "repair" proactively, so they don't have to pay to replace...

Also, doesn't Elite warranty their repairs? Did it crack again from the same spot?

I'm not one for karma, but I can't help but blame Ms. D for this one:lol: I go to the gym, come outside, and behold! (this is kind of like the MazdaTom "Warning" effect)

Here's what I know about windshield breakage:

First of all, the semi that was carrying the gravel or what ever is responsible. Despite what their sign says (something like: "Not responsible for cracked windshields, back off two miles"), if their gravel caused it, they are responsible. If you can track down the company and contact them, they'll probably pay, if not a simple demand letter should help them along.

Second, your insurance probably covers it, if you have comprehensive coverage (minus your deductible, of course). Even if you don't have comprehensive insurance, you probably want to check with your insurance company, just in case that have a "rate" with a particular glass company.

The windshield of my 5 cracked a couple of months ago. It cost like $530 (including the tint strip on top), of which I had to pay a 250 deductible. They didn't ding me for for filing a claim, either, since it wasn't my fault.

Good luck on getting this fixed cheaply.

Lol. Ironic, considering how Elite ads constantly blather on about "they ignored the chip, hit a pothole, and CRACK"

oops, sorry king! Not my fault! Haha jk, that really sucks though, im sorry!

well well....my insurance deductible is $1000. When I first got the spider-web crack, I called up my agent and they sent Elite Safelite out to repair it. The guy straight up told me though that it may crack. And yep. Sure did!

If I could remember the truck that threw the rocks at me, I'd go after their asses but that was in September when it happened, I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night! So, im screwed I guess.

I have a new insurance agent and he's a DICK HEAD. I've considered just asking Allstate to not give me an agent at all but yeah, dont have time to mess with that bs. I still have some calling around to do tomorrow, so hopefully I can find something cheaper. My tint strip was only $20 :)

Yeah it does suck, but I had a handful of little chips...it was only a matter of time I guess! Luckily it's my work truck:p

Keep us posted if you find a good deal-

I'm a huge fan of Precise Auto Glass in Colorado Springs. Mark, the owner, is a straight shooter and is very meticulous. He just put glass in my RX-7 race car and in my BMW M Roadster. He's about to do my Jeep, too. I learned more about auto glass from him in 10 minutes than I ever knew before.
