Hey guys,
Mazda of Lakewood is approaching our club for information.
What I'd like to get from you guys, is if any of you have ever worked with this dealership. If you did, please explain your experience, be it good or bad. It's a research thing.
Tim...your opinion does matter here.
Thanks!

For the longest time I stayed away for as long as i could however they have changed their ownership and the new owners seem really cool. I am really excited to work with them and have been for a while now. As long as things haven't changed in the past 6 months I personally endorse them 100%. (For the record: i have NOT had a service done there so i can't speak for the service side ONLY parts and the new owners).

I used to go there. Got the 8 from Gateway hated the bitter old guys in service so from like Aug 2004 till about Aug 2007 I went to MOL for service and everything there. Really liked it till they got rid of the Service Manager they had. I really didn't like the new service manager and all the BS he would feed me so when I joind the club and was directed to Burt I made the switch.
This was before the new ownership have only been there once since I stopped going and that was to purchase a part.

When I was shopping around for my Speed6, they were the place that I spent most of my initial time, looking and test driving.
I was a little put off because I was offering what I believed, was a reasonable amount. They just seemed (to me), to be a little too much into playing "the game" of back and forth and feigning incredulity, and all that posturing. I really had thought that when I said "I'm willing to pay $xx,000.00" that it was understood by all parties involved. (?)
Instead though, we spent a bit of back and forth time that eventually had me repeating myself, and in turn I was made to feel I wasn't flexible. I think the deal got sealed when I realized that it wasn't in the cards that day, and I said something to the affect of "Well... I'll continue to do some thinking and shopping around." and the guy I was talking to, just got up from the table and walked away to some customers who had just walked up to the storefront.
I actually decided not to leave on such an odd-note, and I went outside and excused myself, and told him thank you for his time. I think he would have just as soon been okay with me leaving under those circumstances. (?)
For what it's worth, I got the obligatory "callback" within about 72 hours, with them wanting me to come back as they could finally take my offer. But at that point though, I was already the owner of one, courtesy of (another) Mazda dealership.
I wouldn't tell people to stay away from them, but I would tell them to be prepared for all the haggle nonsense. I'm just too much of a simple "No thank you" kinda guy, to defend the wasted time.

I had a similar experience to Barn.
Back in December I was in the market to buy a Speed6. I had done my research, and was prepared to go out to the Springs to buy one because they were so much less expensive out there. I didn't want to drive the 70 miles just to test drive the model, so I stopped in at MOL. They were nice enough. My wife an I were hungry and said that we were going to get some lunch and discuss how we wanted to proceed. The salesman that was working with us insisted that we take the car to lunch. We did. We discussed the other prices vs milage while at lunch and came back with a figure in our heads. When they asked what they had to do to get us to buy from them, I told them the number that I was willing to spend. Mind you that it was about 5,000 less than their asking price. The guy looked at me like I had grown another head. The next half hour consisted of multiple salesmen and managers repeatedly asking me what it would take for me to buy the car from them. I repeated my offer and got similar looks. We finally got fed up and headed for the door. I told the sales manager that he shouldn't worry that he couldn't meet the prices that were in the Springs, we would just take a drive and that it wasn't a big deal. That's when things shifted. As soon as they realized that we were serious they dropped the price and sold it to me for what I was offering.
A bit of advice to car buyers. Go in with a nice down payment and pre-approved for financing. The dealership did go out of their way to beat my pre-approved interest rate and I didn't get screwed on a trade-in.
On a side note. While waiting for them to detail the vehicle and bring it out to me, I was introduced to the service manager, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was actually the one that referred me to this club. I called the dealership two weeks after taking possession of the car to see if they could change my keyless configuration and the service manager was no longer working there.
I currently go to Sil-Ter-Har(sp) for my service because it is about two miles from my house.
Hope this helps

Come to think of it, hearing some of these stories. I too was "haggled" with my pricing when I went to get my 6. They actually wanted me to get a DIFFERENT 6 instead of the one I wanted (the one I now have). Come to find out after the paperwork was signed, they had the wrong price tag on the one I got so they were trying to sell me the other 6 with the correct tag... meaning they would get the full amount they were looking for for that specific car. However, they did stick to the tag that was in the window on the one I got, but it was very annoying when they continued to go back and forth with the other 6. This was October 2007. Ownership and personnel may certainly have changed since then.
I really liked buying from them. Very cool people and didn't give me too much of a hard time over the price. I went with my older brother who has worked at Prestige Porsche and Audi Finance for a number of years. It went pretty smooth: I offered $500 under invoice and they accepted after about 20 mins. Only problem I did have was when I took my car in to have the rear view mirror extra installed, my ipod went missing. It was supposed to be a 3 hr job...got the call saying they got the wrong harness delivered. It ended up snowing that thursday (lots of snow) and I didn't get my car back until Friday afternoon. I went back after I completely tore apart my apt. and desk at work with no other doubt in my head that it must have been in the car. After only a day, I was offered $100 for a replacement ipod. Not the best outcome, but it was the highest price that they were going for used on craigslist. I put that towards a brand new silver 120gb ipod. I like them, but I won't be having them do any overnight work on my car again.
I bought my MS3 from them in March of 07. Deal went fine. Guys were all nice. Service manager at the time was cool.
A girl I work with here has a customer who is not all there mentally. He was taken advantage of by MOL a month or so ago. My coworker had to be his advocate and have them reverse the deal.

I did have some electrical trouble with my Ride when it was still under warranty; summer 2006. I live in Glenwood where there is no Mazda Dealer for miles. So when I called Mazda Roadside assistance they had my Ride picked-up on a flatbed and had it delivered to Mazda of Lakewood. I didn't make the trip to Lakewood and talked to the Service Center over the phone and described the problem. They had the car for a week, and were stumped but said they checked it out and it was fine. I came down the following Friday to pick-up my Ride. I proceeded to drive the car back and as I started up Floyd Hill the Car died again. Pulled of I-70 and called MOL, they ended up sending out another flatbed to pick-up the car again. Ended up going home without my Ride. Later that week they track-it down and found an electrical short and the problem was finally resolved. I would have appreciated a through analysis and extra effort to diagnosis the problem before turning the car back to me the first time.
I purchase my Ride from John Elway Mazda of Westminister (Now GO) an other than a 12,000 mile service from the same dealership and my warranty experience above, my Ride has not been service at a dealership.

Buying experience was fine. Price on the RX8 was good. Follow up on the "We Owe" items after purchase was absolutely horrific. They wouldn't swap out floormats from the (literally) 7 8s they had on the lot. "Against policy", then never ordered new ones for my car until about a month later, but only after I called them daily. Scratched my car when installing new windshield (tried NUMEROUS times to get windshield replaced. Every time I drove down, and this would be when they called to let me know that he was on site, "oh the guy just left, he had another job". That happened THREE times. Agreed to "touch up" front of my car from rock chips and PAINTED IT THE WRONG COLOR. To this day, I still have the freakin' 2-tone RX8. The head unit was broken, they agreed to replace, and KNOWINGLY installed the wrong head unit. When I called back to mention this, Rich said he knew it was the wrong one but installed it anyway, and finally ordered the correct Bose headunit. Scratched the center console when reinstalling the stereo. Would not repair, said I caused it.
And my issues with the transmission is well known. Rich would not budge from the issue being the clutch. When I finally gave in and said, fine I'll pay for a clutch, but if it ends up NOT being the issue, I want my money back in full (eventually, I even gave in and just said I want labor reimbursed). They would not do it. Had to call MNAO several times on them to get any form of cooperation. Had SIGNED estimates from 2 independent transmission shops that 2nd gear was shot and was definitely not a clutch issue. Tech at Lakewood drove the car and agreed it was 2nd gear. Rich overturned his diagnosis, said I raced the car, and it was the clutch. Finally had McDonald rebuild tranny under warranty.
Regardless of ownership, unless they're giving away free cars, I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever step foot on that worthless horse crap property again. Ever.
Forgot to add, this experience was from Sept 2007- Aug 2008.
