Synapse BOV

Is the location/set up the same on an MS3 as it is for the MS6?

For one, this thing is pretty large. I know some people have these installed, but a FMIC would probably solve the fitment issues I'm having. It seems (running in recirc), that the SRI is getting in the way, as well as the lines on port A and B, and the hood itself.

When I ordered this from the RPM store, they told me I would have everything I would need for install--as I specifically asked about the MS3 application in recirc. After waiting for the flange to arrive from backorder, I get it and its just a 1" (or so) straight extension. It would almost seem like you'd need it to be an "elbow" that extends downward or something?

Any ideas?

I can't post from experience but the pics I have seen show no real fitment issues. can you post a pic of how it sits when mounted?

Mine rubbed as well(MS6)...... I just rotated it towards a more horizontal position. Mine just barely leans down towards the recirc side. I had to cut my recirc tube to allow this. Now no more rubbing and hassle free operation.

The rubbing will wear a hole in your silicone lines and hinder the operation. Just loosen the set screws and rotate it up from the recirc side of the BOV. I can't remember eactly what the MS3 looks like compared to the MS6 but I remember it being very similar. It will be worth it when yo get it right.

Thanks for the reply Gmoney. Interesting- regardless of how much the BOV was tilted, it still seemed to come into contact with the hood.

I believe we use the same cold pipe, just put a BOV on a MS3(I'm Batman's)

I took some pics showing my orientation, now you have a SRI, and the filter might be more of an issue for you.:confused:

Now I have the upgraded engine mounts in my car, front and back. I have a 2-3 inch scar where the BOV rubbed without me knowing. It started acting weird, so I checked and sure enough there had been a hole worn in the top line. Now I am betting I have about 1/4 inch clearance now with the hood closed.

Regardless of all the drama that was involved, I would like to give props to Eric / firestoned for offering up his assistance. He's already given me a few pointers, as well as providing info on installation specific to the Synapse. As others have said, its too bad he's no longer a part of this club:(.

He has helped me out a few times.......I am in HR and would not mind helping you get it all put together. Now I used his method as well and it works flawlessly. I am a gimp right now, as I decided a good Mother's Day gift would be myself stepping on a framing nail that almost went completely through my foot:eek:

I am interested in buying a BOV in a couple of weeks. Was looking at the HKS, but I'm more interested in the Synapse now. Is the install a headache, or is it easily fixed?

The fact that I'm having problems doesn't really say much. As I'm pretty up front with the fact that I have zero mechanical expertise, lol. I think the Synapse has one more step than the HKS, but nothing big. Both have issues with (potentially) rubbing on the hood. The Synapse is much larger than the HKS, and most people have upgraded from the stock TMIC, so that alleviates some of the fitment issues from the get go.

...I think the Synapse is a bit cheaper too:cool:. Although these seem to be less heard of than the HKS (pertaining to Mazdas anyway), when doing some researching, they seem to be widely used among other platforms.

To the OP,
As far as the Synapse goes. I am in Dallas for the week, but I also have the Synapse installed with the boost line tapped by the hot pipe. I can help out with any pointers or tips or install help as well.
