This has been pretty well documented on other forums as well. There have been multiple cars that this has happened to, from fully bolted to completely stock. It is just an oversight in the car's ECU programming I think.

Unless I missed something, Burt hasn't told him what exactly is wrong with the motor. The lean spot issue typically occurs with more mods, usually aftermarket turbos. What happens is the lean spot causes unregulated detonation, which over time will weaken the connecting rods. Eventually, a rod will snap.

So what is the issue with your motor?

Mark contacted me this evening and the verdict is: spun bearing. He also mentioned the new short block was definitely ordered but he had no ETA as of yet.

Gateway mazda told me it would be in a week after they ordered it, yours should be the same time frame I would assume. Good luck with your repairs.

I just talked to MNAO. They told me that your engine is on a boat from Japan. He said it was scheduled to arrive the 24th. I put this engine on a high priority. So I will keep you posted. Sorry for the delay. Mazda has been backordering a good amount of parts lately. I don't know what the deal is.

I LOVE Mazda. I just happen to worry a bit about their Mazdaspeed lineup's reliability based on what I read from other MS drivers. That said, I'm bone friggin stock, so I should be OK.

One of the few complaints I have about Mazda is that their warranty's are WAY too short compared to what has become the industry standard these days. They need to work on that, IMHO.

More $$ for longer warranty. Get an after-market one. My Saab warranties were lovely and long, but for a $38K car, I think it was somehow built into the price. I don't think a MazdaSpeed costs quite that much. Take the money you saved, and get your own warranty. Hell, even Saab owners do that before theirs expire.

A high-performance car will always require more maintenance and experience more problems. That's the nature of the beast.

Take care of your Speed, and it will take care of you. ;)

Yeah, we're looking at aftermarket warranties for both the MS6 and the CX_9, which seems to be falling apart at the seams.

I've heard USFidelis is BAD...anyone have experience?

So the last time I spoke with Mark (last Friday) he mentioned trying to get the newly-arrived long block into my MS3 by the end of day today. It seems that's not going to be the case, though; I spoke with (I think Ken) and found out that the wrench that's working on my car is being sent to a class this week and won't be finishing the car until next week. I'm fine with the car being properly fixed, however: next week will make it a solid month since it blew (July 3rd)..
