Hitch

Postby AIM WO4 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 9:14

I put my hitch on last night...

Need to pick up some wiring bits to hook up the pigtail. I'll be getting a bike carrier soon. I can use the wiring for my cargo box lights. :D

I have a Schwinn 4 bike carrier that's never been used if you're interested. Got it from Target, never used it and lost the receipt to return it. Looks like you have a 1-1/4" hitch. It will fit. I think it was like $110 +tax.

The Mazda 5 doesn't have roof racks? Is that an option? I have a Thule rooftop cargo box for my VUE.

The Mazda can have roof racks, I've got them, you just don't get the great MPGs with a rack.

What's the load capacity of the box?

Thanks for the offer...

I have a 2-bike rack for the oddball bikes I own.

You should put yours in the FS section!

You can get them. I just need a place for my bike rack. I already had this cargo box (Carries up to 13 cu. ft. and 150 lbs) from my Saab days.

I'm not sure. The rack on my VUE is rated for 80 or 100 lbs. My Thule is pretty stuffed full right now- I'm in Grand Island, NE on my way home right now.

On this road trip (we're about 2100 miles in so far), I've been seeing tank averages in the 25 mpg range with the box. The tank before last was 27 mpgs- and that's with the cruise set at 75 mph (which in the past has been a pretty inefficient speed for the VUE especially with the Thule on top- like in the 22 mpg range). This tank doesn't look to be that good, but now the cruise has been set at 80 mph through Nebraska.

I installed a hitch yesterday. The instructions said to enlarge the existing holes to 1/2 inch. I found the holes were already 1/2 inch. Were the instructions wrong, or did some one already make these holes bigger? Thanks.

I just picked up a new 09 sport manual and I had to open the holes up for my hitch.

Side note, I've seen a couple of people have changed wheels, what did you do for the Tire pressure Sensors?
