Well, I figured I must introduce myself. I'm 18 and I have an 1984 RX7 that's insanely fun to drive, but has a ton of problems.
My real reason for joining is to see if anyone knows a mechanic who is good with rotaries in the springs. I asked my mechanic, who referred me to another, who said there was a rotary shop that closed down but the guys son had one next to pikes peak glass. Quite the rat race, it seems.
If anyone can help me out, thanks.
Hey all.

Haha I would adore some help. The problems that I can identify (oh my haha) is that when ran hard something in the engine ignites (not whats supposed to) and it smells like burning. Acceleration is dreadfully slow unless I push the pedal to the metal, and I *think* my seals are going. Along with that I'm pretty sure I have a short somewhere because my oil level idiot light is on 24/7, even with full, new-ish oil in it. Also the temperature and oil pressure gauges are pegged all the time, which makes me think electrical.
What's been done to it under my watch is a completely new clutch system (clutch, flywheel, master, slave, ect), I put new NGK spark plugs in, and I ran a can of sea foam through the gas as an additive plus one through the vacuum hosing.
The idle is terrible at start, but fixes itself after the car is on for a little bit and the other day the exhaust was spitting smoke which made me think a stuck/dying/dead apex seal - seems to have gone/lessened after the vacuumed seafoam. Thanks again.

welcome! sounds like you got yourself a fun project, most of ur rotorheads are pretty familiar with these motors and will help as much as we can. Im not too good with the carbs but i guess there pretty finiky. Deffinetly sounds like you got some electrical issues to work out though.

Oh, I forgot to tell the tale of my infinite wisdom. After the spark plug change, I miss reconnected the wires, leading to an idle around 200rpm and terrible engine sounds. I drove to get some gas and noticed smoke coming from the engine bay. Scared to death I raced home and popped the hood. Only then did I realize I mixed up the T1, T2, L1, and L2 wires. Switched them around and it started right up and sounded good. Idk if I did any damage.

I have tons of stock parts so I'm sure we can get it worked out. I'm sure that you problem is not an apex seal because if it was then you would know for sure.

J&M Auto. Jacob knows his rotaries. I'm not saying he's the best, but whenever I can't figure somethin out (which happens alot considering I only have one semester of auto classes to my name) I go to him. He also did my friends swap, and I was referred from a guy I worked with who had 3 FCs, and said he went to him everytime he couldn't fix it. He does have 25+ year rotary experience. Off of Northpark. His numbers 548-0555, hope that helps
