I recall seeing a study done with the various types of LP covers...seeing if the photo van could clearly depict your plate number. I think all (3) of them failed the test, IIRC.
One was supposed to be dark, the other was supposed to reflect the light and skew the numbers, and the last one I forget...

Don't sweat it. Some people take stuff a bit too litteral. I totally got the reference to ronin's post.
Renesis...MMMMMMMMM
I used to get pulled over for my front plate being in the windshield. I finally got tired of it and just mounted it on the bumper. A guy I work with got pulled over by State Patrol and got ticketed for "tinted registration" because he had a dark cover of the plate... Couple weeks later he got another ticket, same thing, for having a CLEAR cover...again, from State Patrol. I find most of my nonsense-stops are from State Patrol, but I haven't ever been ticketed luckily.
wyosaint wrote:I got pulled over too, some HP had someone right outside my house, then i pulled out, the HP was finishing up and ended up behind me. he pulled me over for the same thing, I told him I was on the way to get the car detailed and i would have them take it off....apparently his wife has a mazda too....he let me go.
I thought he was stoping me for my taillights...cuz their extremely dark...didn't even mention it!

Thats a bingo!!!
As long as I'm not doing anything illegal then whatever. It looks a thousand times better without it. I live downtown and do deliveries at work, I see around 15 cops a day at least, and in 9 years have been pulled over three times cause of that, never once got a ticket... so I'm on the winning side so far...

It's all good. Just a sore point with me. I'm hella strict about it. Any more than one drink and I am NOT behind the wheel, but then I get crap about it from some of the idiots I work with who like to down a six pack and drive. Or more.
Should have picked up on the sarcasm.

Yeah, I HATE the presence of that front plate marring my bumper, though I did use it to cover a scratch from the previous owner.

Death of an Innocent
I went to a party, Mom,
I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
So I drank soda instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom,
The way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom,
Even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom,
As everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom,
I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me,
So responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom,
But as I pulled out into the road,
The other car didn't see me, Mom,
And hit me like a load.
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,
I hear the policeman say,
"The other guy is drunk," Mom,
And now I'm the one who will pay.
I'm lying here dying, Mom...
I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom?
My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom,
And most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom,
I'll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom,
I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom.
The others didn't think.
He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank
And I will die.
Why do people drink, Mom?
It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now.
Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking, Mom,
And I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying
And all he can do is stare.
Tell my brother not to cry, Mom.
Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom,
Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom,
Not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom,
I would still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom.
I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom.
When I needed you,
you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom.
Before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive,
So why am I the one to die?

First of all - Paul, shame on you!! But I know you're only kidding. Guys - seriously, he's not the type to drink & drive, so let's please not make this about his sarcastic remark. He just has a twisted sense of humor.
CSP love looking for any excuse to pull people over - it's how they're finding the suspended or uninsured drivers. TECHNICALLY - we should all be getting pulled over for any mods we have. Colorado has a "No Mod" law - but of course, they're not going to enforce it. Too many cars for them to keep up with.

It's not what you drive, it's how you drive it.

Man I wish they never did. This one night I was driving to visit my uncle in the hospital, and of course a CSP Sherriff decided to pull me over. This Effing A-hole must have caught his wife cheating five seconds earlier or something cause damn! He walked around my car with me, marking every single illegal thing about my car. This was in my Honda tho, so I got everything from engine modifications, to exhaust, to suspension, to front license plate, to no seat belt. But not only this $500+ ticket, but I was pulled over for three effing hours!!! After the walk through he went back to his car and left me just sitting their for exactly 1 hour and 45 minutes! I was so pissed, so then I go to court and what do you know, asshole never even reported it, but no, I couldn't just leave, cause I had to wait at the court house til 1pm (was 8:30am at the time) cause he could show up then, and I'd have a warrant. So I missed most of work furious at the court house. Never showed up and was dropped though, but I mean seriously, I had no idea what that guys problem was. He even said I was trying to impersonate an emergency vehicle cause I had blue lights under my dash! I said, "look at my car, it has a kit, chrome wheels, and is 3 inches off the ground, who the eff is gonna think this is a cop car!!!" That was a bad night...

My Car Blog
I never used to have a front plate on my SRT-4 because I hated that it partially blocked the intercooler and was just plain ugly. I got pulled over for it once though and the guy ended up giving me a $50 ticket for my exhaust while he was at it. From then on I just left the front plate on to try to call less attention to myself.
I just got my plates for the Speed3 and put the front plate on, but it didn't help me on Wednesday morning. Got pulled over for driving "too fast for conditions" when I was doing 80 in a 75, but he wrote it for 80 in a 65 because he said 65 was "being generous" as a safe speed even though he had just got done telling me he was doing 70 when I passed him (unmarked brownish/gold Charger that I didn't notice). The roads were only wet with a few slushy spots between lanes but they were not icy. I have brand new snow tires on a FWD car. My car could easily handle the speed I was going without risking anyone's safety. I signaled for every lane change and had my lights on unlike 90% of the idiots on the road that day. He complained that I passed some people on the right but why were they blocking the left two lanes when they weren't passing anyone? That's a law too. I got the vibe that he was cranky about having to be out in the weather because he kept telling me about how he had just gotten done cleaning up an accident. I tried to explain to him that people get into accidents even when there's just a slight fog but that's not me and I wasn't causing any accidents but he didn't care. I'm going to try to fight it but really this particular charge is hard to dispute because it's the cop's word against mine as to what a safe speed was. It sucks because technically I could have been doing 55 in a 75 and the cop could have given me a ticket for "too fast for conditions" if he wanted to. It's completely arbitrary. Wow, sorry this turned into a huge rant...

REally? The only no mod laws I can find on the books refer to making your exhaust louder and lowering your car....is there something more extensive than that?
