They used to typically have loaner helmets.. you don't have to 'rent', just borrow during your runs.
It used to be that having a full SCCA membership would discount you on the entry fee for an event, as opposed to just buying a one-day membership on site, so if you went to enough events (7 or so from what I recall), it worked out in your favor.
I keep saying used to cause it's been several years since I last auto-x'd. Playing in the stock classes was a great way to be competetive locally without having to dump tons of mod money into your car. That, and iirc, winter series doesn't count towards regionals or nationals, so it's just playtime, really.
You'll see some awesome things if you've never been. Kids on carts posting fastest raw time of the day. Folks in unassuming H stock (Honda Civics) seriously tearing it up.
You'll see strange things. Mercedes 4-seater convertibles whose rear wheels hop at least 6 inches in the air several times when cornering really hard. A rattle-can'd import mini-truck that's been slammed having a serious shot at FTD.
You might see some painful things. An FD that loses a wheel and cuts a 50 foot groove into the pavement. A Z06 sliding sideways into a curb.
Good times, and lots of good cars!
